Mortal Turpitude - Chapters 1 to 25
Professor Barry Croft is recovering
from a marriage that failed, in part
because of his dedication to his work
and the resulting long hours, and also
because of his affair with his star
graduate student, Lisa Grissom. Lisa is
a phenomenon in the laboratory, a
beautiful, intelligent, and hard-
working woman, but also an arrogant
and domineering one who alienates
her coworkers. She’s discovered a
gene complex that will turn mild cold
and flu viruses into deadly plagues
that the human body cannot defend
against. Many members of Barry’s
group want the gene complex
destroyed. While Barry is seeking
advice from a colleague at CDC in
Atlanta, Lisa’s discovery inadvertently
comes to the attention of Major Paul
Fortino, a US Army germ warfare
specialist. He wants the gene complex
for his own purposes. Together with his
lawyer and friend, Rhiannon Lane,
Barry discovers that Fortino needs Lisa’
s gene complex to complete a lifelong
quest for a monstrous weapon known
as 'Qiyamah'.
